I personally think this episode was a masterpiece in its capacity as a setup episode. As a standalone episode, true, it wasn’t super spectacular but as a setup episode it was amazing and there were a lot of subtle things I really liked. “Slower” episodes like this are required to serve as a launchpad for much more epic episodes later on.

The storyline of Episode 46

Some things I liked:

– The scene between Savci and Lena in their tent was full of raw emotion. I think for the most part only older/married people would understand that scene. Really tugged at your heartstrings in a painful way.

– Osman Bey meeting that one tefkur. We are starting to see the classical Ottoman tactics of making your enemies fight one another take fruit.

– The Bamsi and Osman scene at the very start. Felt very ‘stately’ and really gave the feeling of a budding revival.

– When David came back to the tent after being stabbed and Osman and Savci stared at his wound. This is right after we had Nikola say he knew where to stab someone so they wouldn’t die. The scene, without saying a word, implied that Osman and Savci also knew this.

– The scene with Cerkutay and the children. Not much needs to be said about this, just a great wholesome scene.

– The feeling of dread. We’ve seen the good guys in a bad spot before, but this time Bozdag handled it so well it actually FEELS like things are bad. Just doom everywhere.
